You might remember Zulema and Bequer (Beq) from their engagement shoot in Agoura Hills. They were and still are some of the sweetest people we have ever met! Plus, they have a sincere love of vintage decor, including a classic Mustang fastback that instantly made Joe drool. Their DIY details were also amazing! In addition to the tons of things that they found over a year of hitting thrift stores, Zulema made a ton of stuff herself, Zulema’s Mom made the bride’s maid dresses and her sister made the cake! It’s no wonder they were featured on http://www.weddingchicks.com/2011/09/22/southern-vintage-arizona-diy-wedding/! On top of all of that awesomeness, they were married at a venue set in a pecan grove in Arizona (http://www.venueatthegrove.com/)! It truly was a beautiful day and we are genuinely thankful that we got to be a part of it!

We say this a ton and we will say it again: WE LOVE OUR COUPLES. When we met with Jonna and Lee we totally knew that we were going to love shooting with them. Jonna loves all things vintage, they are super cute together, so in love, and they are just genuinely down to earth and fun people to be around. Then, when we were tossing around engagement session ideas not only did Jonna mention that she had an adorable golden retriever puppy (Bear) that she wanted to bring along, but she also came up with the epic idea of shooting them with a piano in a field! Since Lee is a musician and they met while filming his music video, Sweet Serendipity (too freaking cute), the piano idea made total sense and fit them perfectly! In hindsight, we probably should have looked into finding a prop piano (yes, that is a real piano in the field that we found and we all agreed that it had to have weighed at least 1,000 pounds)… BUT, Jonna and Lee were total troopers and helped us move the piano and, even though I am sure we all had sore backs the next day, we had a GREAT time tromping around Agoura Hills, making tons of Disney references, and getting to know Jonna and Lee a little better during their engagement session. We can’t wait to shoot their wedding!

So here is their mega-awesome super-long blog post of favorites :)

If you haven’t heard of the site Pinterest.com I am so sorry that I didn’t write this post sooner for you. I truly feel you have been missing out on a quite addictive experience (as if wedding planning wasn’t addictive enough.) To sum up the site Pinterest allows you to very easily create style boards from images found on the web (or found through searching the site). I have found amazing recipes (including the best mac n cheese recipe ever!), cool home projects, and some amazing style/fashion options..Ok I admit it, I also have a board for “cute and fluffy things” (baby bunnies etc).

If you are a visual person, like myself, creating a ‘style board’ is super helpful. It lets you see all your ideas in one spot, see if they work well together and piece together outfits. I think this is super helpful for not only wedding decor/style but also engagement sessions. So many of our brides don’t know exxxactly how they would like to ‘style’ their session so it is not only cute/fun/cool but screams ‘them’. I am not talking what poses and images they want taken I am talking what boots go cute with that rose colored summer dress, how to coordinate his/hers outfits, or just what items that you love (his guitar, her painting easel etc) work for a photoshoot. This is where I love pinterest and think it is genius. You can create styles based on a specific color pallets, themes, or  a common love (photography perhaps?) and then work around that to create a look that is totally you! I often play around with different boards to come up with ideas that I think would transfer well into shoots. Here are some examples:

Check it out! Go have fun and organize all your inspiration photos :)

Now back to our regularly scheduled photo blog posts….

Bonnie and Alex are not only super stylin and good lookin, they are also so much fun! One of the reasons we pretty much always do engagement sessions with our Brides/Grooms is it gives us a chance to get to know them. Joe and I love seeing how couples interact, how they photograph, and getting to become more than just “the photographers at the wedding” is really awesome. By the end of this session we learned quite a few adorable things:

1. Bonnie bribes Alex with backrub time in order to get him to do things. I think this is beneficial to both parties. :) You would never know it by the photos, but Alex insists that he does NOT like having his photo taken. I can’t recall how much back rub time was negotiated by the end of the shoot, but I know there was some simultaneous football watching involved…

2. Bonnie also serenades Alex, or at least she did during one part of our session (which is pretty much the cutest thing in the entire world).

3. If you have spent any time with us, you know we love movies…more so, we love quoting movies! Now, we normally just kind of quote them to each other as inside jokes but our eyes always light up when a couple starts quoting some of our favorites too! We found out that Alex loves one of our favorite movies: “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” By the end of the shoot we were all laughing like crazy while we were quoting the movie. Total win!

Anyways! Enough about how much we loved the session. Here are just a few of our favorites. Enjoy!

Bonnie - Marianne & Joe, Thank you sooo much for the wonderful engagement shoot and kind words. We loved working with you. Our only complaint: we couldn’t find a single photo to use for the save the date magnets. . .we found something like 30! It was quite the narrowing down process that involved the whole family :). Best wishes on your own upcoming wedding!
